U.S. Scholar is coming to Santiago to study «Chile’s Creator Culture»
Professor David Craig is a communication and media scholar from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. For a decade he has been studying «creator culture», which refers to how social media creators and influencers helped build a global industry that may be worth $500 Billion USD, according to Goldman Sachs.
Professor Craig has conducted research in over 15 countries, interviewed over 500 creators and experts, written three field-setting books, produced multiple creator conferences, and helped launch the field of creator studies that includes hundreds of interdisciplinary and international scholars from all over the world.
Craig is also a leading scholar of China’s creator industry, which is already valued at $1 Trillion USD. His research predicted the competition from Chinese platforms like TikTok around the world, including the backlash from the United States, India, and other countries.
As part of a Global Fulbright project, Professor Craig is studying creator culture all over the world. His research in Thailand this summer has been featured throughout Thai press, as seen here Bangkok Post – Research project findings highlight ‘Thai creator culture’
In November, Professor Craig will be in Santiago to study Chile’s creator culture and will be conducting interviews with Chilean creators and executives. Hosted by Universidad Adolfo Ibañez, Craig is collaborating with Arturo Arriagada, an Associate Professor of Communication who is the Director of the Cultura Social Media.
