Coquimbo’s Bold New Tech Hub: Driving Investment and Revitalising Rural and Coastal Economies

Aiming to attract investment and energise rural and coastal sectors through targeted economic development strategies, AmixTechLab.com has announced the launch of a new Tech Business Hub. This initiative will focus on fostering PropTech (property technology), scientific tourism and innovation within the agro-viticultural sector across the Coquimbo Region.

A key component of this hub will be the creation, planning and execution of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and Shared Value projects for the region’s wind energy, mining and agricultural enterprises. Another priority is developing regional family offices, empowering multi-generational families to leverage their investments locally by diversifying into sectors beyond tourism, agriculture and retail.

Agricultural engineer and project lead Maximiliano Morales explains: “We began several months ago with a strategy to attract startups and businesses to the region. By strengthening regional soft-landing initiatives, we’re activating business networks and enabling these companies to rapidly connect with clients. Our services include coaching and business development, supported by a network of entrepreneurs eager to refine their operations.”

The hub’s services aim to help startup founders and teams package their ideas effectively, identify regional market fit and integrate with local business ecosystems. Whether through industry associations or groups seeking to modernise operations with new technologies, the initiative is designed to accelerate innovation and collaboration.

Spotlight on Coquimbo and Atacama’s Coffee, Wine and Pisco

AmixTechLab.com’s business network spans cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, London, Buenos Aires and Paris, bolstered by a multidisciplinary team. This includes Khemngern Tonsakulrungruang, a graduate of the MSc in Wine and Spirits Management from KEDGE Business School in Bordeaux, and Francesca Bridgewater FCIM, an expert in wine business, luxury real estate and film production.

In partnership with AndesWines.com, the Tech Business Hub will assist Coquimbo and Atacama’s wine and pisco producers in gaining access to international markets, particularly in France and the UK. This effort aligns with a broader strategy to elevate regional brands on the global stage.

Drawing from his experience as a contributor to Perfect Daily Grind, a leading global coffee publication, and his seven-year tenure as a coffee branding strategist, Morales plans to organise coffee tastings in La Serena and Coquimbo. With the region’s growing specialty coffee scene, these events aim to attract new consumer segments while fostering networking opportunities.

Coastal Innovation and Research

Further plans include developing coastal research projects, inviting international specialists to collaborate on initiatives that explore the region’s marine potential. Morales, a former Wine Specialist aboard the National Geographic Explorer and Silver Cloud cruises in Patagonia and the Chilean fjords, brings a wealth of experience to this endeavour.
